THE ADJUSTABLE WHEELCHAIR FOR PARTIALLY PARALYZED PATIENT

Abstract

A wheelchair is a chair with wheels, used for disabled persons who find it difficult to perform movements. These assistive devices is easily moves from one place to another but these existing wheelchairs are difficult to manage patients. Thus, we designed adjustable wheelchair specially for partially paralyzed patient. But, the movement of patient is limited and difficult to handle either in patient or guardian especially patient who are overweight. Objective of this research is to produce adjustable wheelchair for partially paralyzed patient where the patient no need to perform more movements. This method of study begins based on data collected from questionnaires that have been made to patients and guardians about wheelchairs. Then, we identify the problems encountered next designing wheelchairs using a combination of wood and steel. After that, do a measurement, cutting and shaping on the parts according to the designed. Next, make a jointing to the backrest, seats, legs, wheels and all designs and the finishing process which uses waterproof coating on all parts of this wheelchair and on the wood part covered with mica. And from this research as well, this wheelchair potentially used by patients specifically partial paralysis. Therefore, it will allow the patient to perform daily activities and be able to provide convenience to guardian. For this research product, we made the addition of seats by placing a toilet bowl and a height adjustment of 20 cm according to standard bed height. Result of our research product is “Adjustable wheelchair partially paralyzed”.
